401: What International churches of Christ believe/Kip McKean
Excerpted from the Official, World Headquarters, Creed of: International churches of Christ ICOC (Crossroads, Boston, Kip McKean, Discipling Movement) NOTE: This website is not affiliated with the ICOC and is presenting their beliefs for reference only. "We Believe That: Jesus, the Son of God, is our one and only Lord and Savior, crucified for our sins and physically resurrected from the dead on the third day. The Bible is the only inspired and inerrant message of God. One is saved by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus Christ; and a person must, through faith and obedience, reach out to receive this free gift of salvation. Only baptized disciples are members of Christ's church. After baptism every new Christian needs to be taught or "discipled" by older, more experienced Christians to obey all of Jesus' teachings (Matthew 28:20). Every disciple must be committed to the vision of building churches of disciples -- true churches of Christ -- in every nation on earth." Click Your ... ...

407: Biblical Subordination of God the Son, to God the Father
Jn 1:1 says, "and the word was [uncreated] God". However, sometime around the incarnation, Jesus made a choice to submit to the Father as His head. We call this choice, the subordination (or down-ranking) of Christ to the Father. Jesus did not give up being God, He merely began to obey the Father as though He were a creature. This is called "Biblical subordination". Bible evidence seems to support the view that the Holy Spirit submits to both the Father and the Son, but it is not a strong case. 418: Lesson 19: Baptism Is Immersion
In John 3:23 we read, "Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there." Why was John baptizing near Salim? "Because there was much water there." Scriptural baptism, which is immersion, according to the Bible requires much water. In Mark 1:5 we read, "Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out ... And immediately, coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove." When Jesus was baptized, he was baptized in the Jordan River. Why? Again, because there is much water in a river which is required for scriptural baptism, which is immersion. Also notice that after Jesus was baptized, he came "up out of the water." So scriptural baptism not only requires much water, but it also requires "coming up out of the water." This cannot be said of sprinkling or pouring. Next we turn to Acts 8:36-39. This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. initiation into the Church of Jesus Christ is baptism by immersion, because- -only a believer can mean what baptism professes. (Acts 2:38-40) -only immersion can symbolize death and resurrection. (Rom. 6:1-4) Baptists believe that, to be true to the meaning of the Greek word, baptizo, (to immerse or dip,) baptismal candidates should be buried in water and raised up, as our Lord was buried in the tomb and raised from the dead for our salvation. However, while we hold such baptism to be necessary in obedience to the Scriptures, we do not believe that it is necessary for salvation, and we believe that little children (who are not old enough to confess faith in Christ) are safe in the love of God. 4. We believe that the church is composed of believers in Christ, of those who share the Christian experience. (I Cor. 12:12-27, Eph.4:1-16) Baptists hold that all who believe in Christ are in His Church, and that local churches are groups of baptized believers united to worship God, to receive ... ...

429: Does Jesus have a human body NOW?
Right now Jesus has shed the "body" ("container" for all you comet hail-bopp followers) and is composed 100% of spirit as he was before the incarnation. Right now Jesus does not have flesh, bones or blood, but is wholly a spirit being, as he was before incarnation. Jesus resurrected body is nothing like what our future resurrected body will be like. False view Jesus actually retains some metaphysical qualities of being human right now in heaven ... Jesus resurrected body was in no way distinguishable from any other human body. The counter argument that Jesus body had to be different because he could "walk through walls" is 100% neutralized when we realize that Philip was transported 30 miles instantly in Acts 8 and Jesus was transported to the shore 2 miles away Lk 16:21" They were willing therefore to receive Him into the boat; and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going." 430: Lesson 17: Baptized Into Christ
... At that point we begin our walk in newness of life. Newness of life does not begin until after baptism. In John 3:3 Jesus told Nicodemus, "Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Then two verses later in John 3:5, Jesus tells how being born again takes place: "Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." Our Lord is very emphatic in what he says. No man has the power or authority to repeal what our Lord has said. Nor does anyone have the authority to rationalize it away and teach otherwise. Jesus said that we must be born of water and the Spirit. Jesus said that being born again must not only include the Spirit, but it must include water. Here we see that when one is baptized in water, he is raised to walk in newness of life, becoming a new creature, and thus he has been born again. Are you still an old sinful creature or have you become a new creature by being baptized into Christ? 6) The Apostle Paul says in II Timothy ... ...

446: Lesson 4: Our Sin Problem
When we rationalize away what God says, this is what we are doing. God says that man has a sin problem, but man says that he does not. Who is right and what are we doing to God when we say that we have no sin? Continuing our reading in I John 1:10, "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." God is always right when he tells us that we have all sinned. In Romans 6:23 we read, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord". Death is a separation. When we die physically, our body is placed into the grave, but our spirit is separated from our dead body and goes back to God, who gave it. We are told in Ecclesiastes 12:7, "Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it". In physical death, there is a separation between our body and our soul. In Romans 6:23, we saw that, "For the wages of sin is death". This is a spiritual death, which is a separation from ... ...

447: Christians Should Be Different!
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. " I John 4:17 states: "Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as he is, so are we in this world." Modern life has many aspects. Let's examine, briefly, a few Christian attitudes and actions typical in every aspect. In matters of religion Christians hear neither inner voices of instruction, nor the teachings of men; they listen well, however, to the voice of God, the Holy Bible. I Cor. 2:12, 13 teaches: "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual." But how many churches does the Lord have? Jesus says in Matthew 16:18, "Upon this rock I will build My church." The word "My" shows possession and that the church belongs to Jesus. How many churches did He say He was going to build? He said, "I will build My church". The word church is singular not plural. The Lord only promised to build His one church. In Ephesians 4:4-6 there are seven ones listed: "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Just as there is only one God and only one Lord we also see there ... Today we hear the sincere but mistaken plea to "attend the church of your choice." Why not attend the church of God's choice, the only one that Jesus "purchased with His own blood" (Acts 20:28). Christ did not shed His blood to purchase any denomination. ... Paradise: Further, on one occasion Jesus prayed to God, saying: "Let, not my will, but yours take place." (Luke 22:42) If Jesus were the Almighty God, he would not have prayed to himself, would he? In fact, following Jesus' death, the Scripture says: "This Jesus God resurrected." (Acts 2:32) Thus the Almighty God and Jesus are clearly two separate persons. Comment: As we have seen, distinguishing between the Persons does not disprove anything. This four-part article will study two popular WT publications in an effort to determine if the WT and its publications are worthy of such trust. The focus will be on the teachings of the WT on the nature of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and the Trinity. In this article, unless otherwise indicated, Scripture references will be from the WT's own Bible, The New World Translation (NWT). Verses marked ... ...

450: Saul Becomes king. Timeline, maps, chronology, sermons of Judges ...
... Finally wicked Saul goes himself and the Holy Spirit genuinely comes upon him and he "raves" or prophecies all night as he lay naked on the ground. (19:24) This was a humiliation and a sign to Saul, but he refused to repent even with this and continued to pursue David. i. Here is another Biblical example of wicked, lost sinners being filled with the Holy Spirit. ii. Saul, Balaam, the high priest who prophesied about Jesus dying for the people and Cornelius etc. are all examples of how the Holy Spirit indwelt unsaved sinners. iii. This is a warning to charismatics and Pentecostals today, who always equate such an indwelling with salvation. 4. After David flees from Naioth, he asks Jonathan the most important question in this entire section: "Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said to Jonathan, "What have I done? What is my iniquity? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?"" (1 Samuel 20:1) a. Just as the wicked never shed tears for their own ... ...
