As "kingdom" collects "citizens" and "flock" collects "sheep," "church" collects people (the word doesn't say if they are Christians or not: Acts 7:37; 19:32,39), and a "church of CHRIST" is a collective of people who profess to be CHRISTIANS who have banded together to work and worship together. 254: Lesson 12: Prayer
Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 12 Prayer In prayer we show our total dependence on God who created all things and us and by Whom all things continue to exist. In prayer we give praise, honor, glory and reverence to His name for His greatness and goodness. We recognize Him as the source of all blessings. It is also the outpouring of our hearts desire. In Romans 10:1 the apostle Paul says, "Brethern, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel, is that they might be saved." Our prayer must come ... God looks with disgust at the prayer of one who is not faithfully following His will. What a pitiful situation it is for us when our prayers become disgusting to God. Could anything be more hopeless? 255: Lesson 6: Vain Worship
Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 6 Vain Worship Our Lord says in Mark 7:7, "And in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." When we follow the commandments of men instead of God's instructions, our worship becomes vain. If our worship is vain, it is empty, hollow, and useless. It will do us no good. If it is vain, it would be as though we had not worshipped God at all and we will be lost. When we worship in the way "we want" then God is dishonored and insulted. When we worship the way God has told us in His word, God is honored and glorified. As we read in John 4:24, "God is a Spirit, and ... 256: Pentecostalism: Worshipping God with your mind in neutral!
Pentecostalism: The religion where you worship God with your mind in neutral! What this means: Pentecostals confuse the inward deception of their own feelings with the supernatural activity of God. There is a strong tendency in all forms of Pentecostalism to clear the mind of all thoughts and await the actions of the Holy Spirit in their life. Sometimes this is done in private by speaking in gibberish for long periods of time (they call it tongues). Sometimes it is done within the design of the worship service where emotionally seductive music is combined with gibberish. What is incredible is that this very type of worship is totally foreign to the Bible yet seen in occult world religions EXACTLY the same as in Pentecostal churches. 257: Lesson 10: Attendance Of Worship
For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation." When we forsake the assembly of the church, except for sickness or circumstances beyond our control, we are not only disobeying God, but we are robbing ourselves of all the benefits of worship which would have helped us to grow and become spiritually strong. By forsaking the assembly, we also endanger our souls because as the above verse says "For if we sin willfully after we have ... 266: Did you choose your church this way???
Would it not be wonderful if the millions of Americans who will choose a church in the next fifteen years would choose a church in this ancient, God-given way of becoming a Christian? Without it we do not have God. By abiding in it we have both the Father and the Son.
