4: Did you choose your church this way???
Did you choose your church this way??? In the next fifteen years it is estimated that 25,000,000 American will choose a church. How shall they make their choice? Wouldn't it be wonderful it each one would begin with an open Bible in his hand? Let him read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, thus coming to believe deeply and earnestly that Jesus of Nazareth is truly the Christ, the son of God. And then let him read on into the book of Acts. There he will find the dynamic preaching of the good news about Christ. He will find that Peter, on Pentecost, preached a sermon about Christ at the end of which the people believed that Jesus was the divine son of God. They asked, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said unto them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" Acts 2:37,38. In each of the major conversion stories in the book of Acts you will find the same pattern for ... ...

5: Does It Matter What We Believe As Long As We Are Honest?
Does It Matter What We Believe As Long As We Are Honest? A good father outlines the rules (both specifically and in general) which his children are to follow. He does this through consideration of all of his family and, particularly, for the sake of his children, whom he loves fervently. The children will have ideas of their own and these will often conflict with their father's rules. The children love the father, but sometimes feel that they have reason to ignore or disobey his rules. They know that their father loves them and they honestly believe that the thing they want to do is good, and that good will result; surely (because it is good) their father will be pleased and will not punish them for breaking the rules. The father is more knowledgeable and mature than the children. Because of his greater experience the father knows that the thing that was done was not good, and he is displeased. Should he punish, or should he commend his children? The 13th Chapter of I Kings, tells of a ... ...

6: The Interactive Bible:
Does my pastor meet the Bible's qualifications? Elders and Deacons The church described in the New Testament is the spiritual body of Christ. The Apostle Paul, speaking of Jesus Christ, says in Ephesians 1:22,23, "And gave him to be head over all things to the church which is his body". A body is a living organism. The church is divine in its origin, since it was built by Christ himself. Jesus told the Apostle Peter after Peter had confessed him to be the Christ, the son of the Living God, that he would build his church (Matthew 16:16-18). The church is both divine and human since it was originated by our Lord and includes human beings. Just as a physical human body is a living organism, so is the church that Jesus built. Just as our physical bodies have structure and organization, so also the church has structure and organization. The church is not simply an organism, it is a well structured organization. When the Apostle Paul wrote a letter to the church at Philippi, he addressed it ... ...

7: Will any religion get me to heaven as long as I am Sincere?
Will any religion get me to heaven as long as I am Sincere? Apparently many sincere people are trusting in their sincerity for salvation. But is sincerity enough? Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" John 14: 6. Now what could this possibly mean if sincerity alone is sufficient? If there is no other way to salvation than through Christ, as he clearly stated here, then sincerity alone will not do, will it? One of the classical examples of a man who was unquestionably sincere, and yet lost, out of Christ, and even an arch enemy of the early church, is that of Saul of Tarsus. Saul had even participated in the murder of the first Christian martyr, Stephen (Acts 7: 58). He "made havoc of the church ... and haling (dragging) men and women committed them to prison" Acts 8: 3. It is even reported further that "Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desiring of ... ...

8: Only The Truth Shall Make You Free!!!
Only The Truth Shall Make You Free!!! Freedom is a most precious possession. Every creature desires and enjoys its freedom. Place a worm or an insect in a jar and it will work to get free. Put a dog on a leash and restrain him in one place and he will howl and bark to be set free. We humans are no different. We do not want our liberties tampered with. On one occasion, Jesus said to the Jews who believed in Him, "If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" John 8:31,32. The key to genuine freedom is found in the phrase; "continue in my word". Jesus says we come to know the truth by continuing in His teachings, and truth is that which will liberate us or make us free. The problem we are faced with has been expressed by the Pop Artist who chanted: "Put your hand in the hand of the man who stills the waters". The beat and the lyrics were good enough to push the tune into the top ten for a while. But most of ... ...

18: What is the Gift Of Tongues?
What is the Gift Of Tongues? One of the most talked about topics in religious circles in the last decade has been tongue speaking. Contemporary tongue speaking is often confused with New Testament gifts of tongues, but they are not the same. The New Testament gift of tongues is described in five passages and you might want to write the passages down. From these five passages three things are evident. First, the New Testament gift of tongues consisted of languages of men which were spoken miraculously, without previous knowledge of the language. Second, these tongues were given as signs to confirm that both the man who spoke and the message he spoke were from God. Third, only those who received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and those who received the laying on of the apostles' hands possessed this miraculous gift. The first mention of speaking in tongues in the New Testament is Mark 16:17-20. In this passage, Jesus promised five kinds of signs which would accompany those who believed: ... ...

20: Bible Miracles and Modern day impostors!
Bible Miracles and Modern day impostors! Do we dare question the power of God today? Does He not now have the same eternal, unlimited power as always? Do we presume to limit the power of God in affirming that no miracles occur today? The answer to these questions is an emphatic "no"! Being omnipotent, God is able to do anything. What God is able to do and what He wills to do are completely different issues. God once created man from the dust, and woman from man's rib. He once parted the Red Sea to permit the escape of Israel from Egypt, and rained manna from heaven upon them. He provided quail in the wilderness, and water from the rock to supply Israel's needs. He gave commandments inscribed on stone with His finger. He once caused His Son to be born of a virgin, and Jesus performed numerous miracles ranging from feeding the hungry to raising the dead. None of these miracles are being witnessed in our time. To say that they are not is not to entertain doubts or define limits of divine ... ...

Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 14 The Lord's Supper Christ instituted the Lord's Supper in order for us to remember the great sacrifice He made for us and that we rely on Him and His sacrifice for our salvation. He gave us this memorial so we would not forget Him and what He did for us. In Luke 22:19, when Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper, He said, "Do this in remembrance of Me." This is done to help us remember the Lord and what He did for us. The death of our Lord was not an accident. It was in God's eternal plan of redemption for Christ to come to this earth and take our punishment for our sins by dying for us so God can now be just in saving us. In a number of places in the Old Testament, God foretells the death of His Son for us. One place is found in Isaiah 53:5-6, "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, and by His stripes we are healed...And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." ... ...

Lesson 2 Worshipping God In Spirit Worshipping God "in spirit" means with reverence, attentiveness, and having the right purpose of honoring God, while understanding what we are doing. Hebrews 12:28-29 says, "Let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire." Our worship must glorify God. 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, "For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." In order to worship God in the right spirit, we must take time before worship to make ready our hearts and emotions so we will be in the proper frame of mind. We should not have to rush or hurry to worship, arriving late but should always plan to be there early enough so we can be in a worshipful attitude and spirit. Our mind must be ready, attentive, and alert. Concerning the Lord's Supper, we are warned in 1 Corinthians ... ...

The preaching of Christ crucified is pleasing to God, but is foolishness to many people. It is only by this kind of preaching and teaching that man will be saved. The kind of preaching God wants is not always pleasant to hear, but it is for our own good. Timothy was told in 2 Timothy 4:2-4, "Preach the word. Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap to them teachers; and ... ...

34: Lesson 7: We Must Give Our Best To God
Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 7 We Must Give Our Best To God As we worship God, we give Him ourselves. Romans 12:1 says, "I beseech you therefore, brethern, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service." Under the Old Testament some of the Jews were not offering their best and were condemned for it. In Malachi 1:8 we read, "And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, is it not evil?" Is it not just as evil today when we do not give God our best? Under the New Testament we do not offer animal sacrifices as the Jews did under the Old Testament; but we give Him our lives in service to Him as a living sacrifice. In doing this we must give Him our all. Anything we do for God must be our very best. Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:37, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, ... ...

Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 8 We Must Only Worship God Jesus said in Matthew 4:10, "You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve." If we worship God in spirit and in truth, we cannot worship anyone or anything else. Anything we worship, other than God, is an idol. According to Webster, an idol is "an image used as an object or instrument of worship." God forbids us to make and worship idols. God says in Exodus 20:4-5, "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God." We see we are not to make any image whether it is a statue or any likeness of anything in heaven or earth to worship them. But this is done today when people worship icons. People bow down and pray to these statues and painted pictures ... ...

Heb 9:27 says a man dies once and then comes judgement. Further, Luke 16:31 clearly shows that righteous Lazarus not able to come back to earth. 4. Josephus (circa 70AD) and Alexander Campbell (circa 1830) believed that demons were the wicked spirits of dead men. Yet Luke 16:31 clearly shows that the rich man was being tormented and not able to come back to earth. Further, Eccl 9:5 and Job 14, teaches that the dead exist in a conscious realm separated from the current events on the earth. 5. The Jews of Jesus day, generally viewed demons as powerful personal spirit creatures that were enemies who afflicted men with various illness 6. The Gentiles viewed demons as both good and bad, to be feared and worshipped: a) In Athens for example, they considered themselves "demon-worshipful" of idols. b) Acts 17:16-23; v18 deity = lit demons; v22 religious = lit. demon-worshipful III. 38: Hades: The conscious realm of the dead!
The two compartment place where departed conscious spirits of the dead await judgment. Click to View (Click on picture to see high resolution) Important introductory comments: Hades is a Greek word used in the New Testament to denote the realm of conscious departed spirits and never refers to the grave. Sheol is a Hebrew word in the Old Testament that is generally equivalent to Hades. Even Samuele Bacchiocchi (an Neo-Sadduceeian who denies conscious life after death) admits the word HADES means punishment and not the grave in Luke 16: "The word hades also occurs in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, but with a different meaning. While in the 10 references we have just examined hades refers to the grave or the realm of the dead, in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus it denotes the place of punishment for the ungodly (Luke 16:23). The reason for this exceptional use will be explained shortly. Obviously, dualists make great use of this parable to support the notion of the ... ...

40: Could mass murder Jeffrey Dahmer get to heaven before YOU?
Could convicted mass murder Jeffrey Dahmer get to heaven before you? Jeffrey Dahmer will definitely go down in history as a very wicked man. Being a deviant sex practitioner who abducted, raped, tortured, murdered and cannibalized his many victims, he is ranked among the worlds worst men in the minds of most. Now I want you imagine a difficult thing; that Dahmer went straight into the arms of Jesus the moment he died. "Impossible", you might snort with indignation! "Why this guy was a real sicko, an evil savage. The Devil incarnate! This boy will surely burn in hell for eternity!" Well, I would like to tell you a true story about Dahmer which was reported in the "Christian Chronicle" and "The Daily Oklahoman" newspapers. A Christian lady named Mary Mott saw Dahmer on a TV show discussing his need for inner peace. Mott mailed a series of Bible lessons to Dahmer which he completed and mailed back to Mott. 42: Lesson 9: Role Of Women In The Church
Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Click to View Lesson 9 Role Of Women In The Church The Bible speaks of how women are to conduct themselves in worship. In 1 Corinthians 14:34-36 we read, "Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church, for Adam was formed first, then Eve." This command of God is not hard to understand. But some want to ignore it and do what seems right in their own eyes. The Bible explains why women are to keep silent and why they are not permitted to speak in church. It was because "Adam was formed first, then Eve." This is the way God has specified that it will be. God speaking to Eve in Genesis 3:16 says, "Unto the woman He said...your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you." The reason women ... ...

46: Lesson 11: Our Dress In Worship
Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 11: Our Dress In Worship Even though worship is not a "dress parade", many times we become too sloppy, and revealing in the way we dress for worship. Our clothes do contribute to the emphasis we place on worship to God. This does not mean we have to wear fine and expensive clothes. But the way we dress should be in keeping with the dignity of the occasion. Women are commanded in 1 Timothy 2:9-10, "In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation...which is proper for women professing godliness with good works." Modest clothing is the way women who are "professing godliness" dress. Certainly a woman or man whose clothing is not modest is not professing godliness by the way they dress. The wearing of lewd and revealing clothing to worship God is unthinkable, but some do it anyway. A woman who wears clothing that exposes herself to men is contributing to ... ...

47: Lesson 21: We Must Worship The Lord In His Church
Master index of 23 studies: "Determine if you worship in Spirit and Truth!" Lesson 21 We Must Worship The Lord In His Church The Lord is to be glorified by the worship He receives in His church. In Ephesians 3:21 we read, "To Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus." But how many churches does the Lord have? Jesus says in Matthew 16:18, "Upon this rock I will build My church." The word "My" shows possession and that the church belongs to Jesus. How many churches did He say He was going to build? He said, "I will build My church". The word church is singular not plural. The Lord only promised to build His one church. In Ephesians 4:4-6 there are seven ones listed: "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Just as there is only one God and only one Lord we also see there is only one body. The Bible says there is only one body; ... ...

50: Why Are There Different Versions Of The Bible???
Why Are There Different Versions of the Bible? When people hear there are over 50 different versions of the Bible in English alone, they often think to themselves, "No wonder there are many denominations each teaching different things, there are many different versions of the Bible." This view, however, is wrong. Yes there are many denominations, but don't blame that on the fact there are many versions of the Bible. There is one Bible. First we need to understand what we mean by a "version". A better word than "version" is "translation". The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew and the New Testament in Greek. If every man could read Hebrew and Greek, then we would have no need for an "English version". Most people can't read Greek, "It's all Greek to me"! We must rely, therefore, upon men who are fully fluent in English and Greek. These "scholars" read the original Greek Bible and come up with an English equivalent. This process is called translation. We have all seen a ... ...
