... At the back of this 31-day file I add three extra file folders. The first is for those who turn out to be pranks. I call this file "Comedians". I have consistently found that 1 in 6 enrollments through a mail-in coupon and 1 in 3 enrollments through the two-minute recorded messages are pranks. The second extra file is for those who enrolled but are not really interested. I called this file Tire Kickers. The third file is called, Out of Towners. I usually refer out-of-town students to the nearest church. If there is no church within a reasonable distance, I will write them a reminder letter only. I also have one master record book which contains every bit of information for each student who returned at least one lesson. When someone returns lesson one, I go through my 31-day file, pull out their enrollment coupon, and glue it to the back of a master record sheet. Each student has his own sheet. 252: Scriptures were more important than tradition to Apostolic Fathers
... What I needed was someone with expertise who could explain the manual to me. Fortunately, I had a friend who was able to show me how the project should be completed. He knows because of oral tradition. An experienced carpenter taught him, and he in turn taught me. Written and oral tradition together got the job done." (Which Came First: The Church or the New Testament?, Fr. James Bernstein, Orthodox churchman, 1994, p 18) In the illustration, the "carpentry manual" represents the Bible and the carpenter represents a minister for a church. First, we find offensive the idea that God was unable to write the Bible in such a way, so as to be easily understood. Bernstein mocks the Bible by saying he became more confused, the more he read it and ended up being "disgusted" at himself, but really at God for God's inability to write something clear to understand. This type of attitude towards the Bible is common among both Catholics and Orthodox. Although you may feel we are being unfair, we ... ...

253: The Catholic Church did not Give the world The Bible!
... It was a gift from the Patriarch of Constantinople (of the Greek Orthodox Church) to Charles I in 1628. It had been in possession of the Patriarchs for centuries and originally came from Alexandria, Egypt from which it gets its name. Scholars are certain that this manuscript was also made in the fourth century and, along with the Codex Sinaiticus, is thought to be one of the fifty Greek Bibles commissioned to be copied by Constantine. In the light of the foregoing, the boastful claim of the Roman Catholic Church that it has been the sole guardian and preserver of the sacred Scriptures down to the present, is nothing but pure falsehood. The Bible is not a Catholic book. Catholics did not write it, nor does their doctrines and church meet the description of the doctrine and church of which it speaks. The New Testament was completed before the end of the first century, A.D. The things in it do not correspond to the Catholic Church which hundreds of years after the death of the apostles ... ...

... The apostolical organization of the first century now gives place to the old Catholic episcopal system [one bishop heading each church]; and this, in its turn, passes into the metropolitan [one diocesan bishop over many churches], and after the fourth century into the patriarchal [one bishop over many other diocesan bishops]. Here the Greek church stopped, and is governed to this day by a hierarchical oligarchy of patriarchs equal in rank and jurisdiction; while the Latin church went a step further, and produced in the middle ages the papal monarchy. The germs of this papacy likewise betray themselves even in our present period, particularly in Cyprian, together with a protest against it. Cyprian himself is as much a witness for consolidated primacy, as for independent episcopacy, and hence often used and abused alike by Romanists and Anglicans for sectarian purposes." 257: What Early Christians believed about PROPHETS OUTSIDE THE APOSTOLIC ...
Because these people did not adhere to the Scriptures or the apostolic dogmas of the church. The early church also knew these people were false prophets because they knew the foundational gifts of apostle and prophet had ceased. This is evident because they do not speak of these offices being in effect in their writings at all. The only time they write about apostles, prophets, or prophetesses in their time is when these individuals are false and heretical. They do write often and cite often the writings or statements of the Biblical prophets and apostles, especially the prophets in the Old Testament. Some want to argue that the church had by this time become cold and legalistic and those in authority wanted to "quench the spirit." My question to those with such an opinion is this - why would they who were so close to the apostles and living witnesses to them want to do such a thing? What benefit would be derived from excommunicating those who had a genuine supernatural gifting from ... ...

None of them based their end of the world countdown clock on Israel becoming a nation in 1948. 3. All these failed predictions that were based on the pyramids an numerology appeared convincing at the time to those who sold everything they had, put on white clothes and waited at midnight on rooftops. After the "certain hour" had passed they were struck with disappointment and a feeling of self-stupidity. This always follows in the wake of failed rapture predictions. 4. However since Israel became a nation in 1948 AD, Rapturists got all excited and began to preach that the end would come within one generation (generally 40 years) of Israeli modern statehood. 5. For example, Harold Camping teaches that exactly 40 years after May 14, 1948, that the "church age" came to an end and ordered everyone to leave their churches in 1988. He then went on to predict the end of the world not once, but twice in 1994 and again on May 21, 2011. 6. Most "Rapture time charts" use the establishment of Israel as ... ...

He noted that such a congregation would have 3.8 baptisms per year, of which 2.4 were directly attributed to genuine outreach. He observed that in 1990, it took 63 Christians to reproduce one new Christian every year. The problem is that most churches are not even growing from these three factors. "Move-ins" ("shifting of the sheep") and "drop-ins" ("easy come-easy go") are rare. The apathy that prevents us from being evangelistic also causes us to lose our children, making "born-ins" rarer. Take a paper and write down the names of all the members of your local assembly. Identify those brethren who are 60+ years old and subtract them from the total membership. What Influenced It? India. Triune Hindu godhead, c. 7th century C.E. Throughout the ancient world, as far back as Babylonia, the worship of pagan gods grouped in threes, or triads, was common. (The Encyclopedia Americana, no year, article or page number given, quoted in, Should you believe the Trinity?, Watchtower publication) At the same time, the Christian church insists that God is One in "sub- stance" (Latin substantia, existence or inner essence), and thus combines in it "mystery" (a formula or conception which really transcends human understanding) the truths set forth in the Holy Scriptures. ... For example, the Roman Catholic and Orthodox church both accept Constantine's mother's choice of Mt. Sinai in 325 AD in the modern Sinai Peninsula at Mt. Musa beside St. Catherine's Monastery. Both these churches take decisions of Ecumenical Councils and church tradition over what the Bible says. Since Queen Helena saw Mt. Musa in a vision to be Mt. Sinai that settles it. Since Constantine proclaimed it Mt. Sinai in 325 AD, the Roman Catholic church will never look elsewhere. Since the Orthodox church built St. Catherine's Monastery in 550 AD at the foot of Mt. Sinai, they won't even discuss the possibility of another location. Although we have escaped the dark ages of science, we are still held in the shackles of the dark ages of Bible geography. ... This Greek conception of hades influenced Hellenistic Jews, during the intertestamental period, to adopt the belief in the immortality of the soul and the idea of a spatial separation in the underworld between the righteous and the godless. The souls of the righteous proceeded immediately after death to heavenly felicity, there to await the resurrection, while the souls of the godless went to a place of torment in hades. The popular acceptance of this scenario is reflected in the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus... This view of hades as a place of torment for the wicked eventually entered into the Christian Church and influenced even Bible translators. ... One assumption was that there were exactly 3000 years between the creation and the dedication of Solomon's Temple and another thousand years from the dedication of the Temple to the birth of Christ (Barr 1985). Ussher dated the birth of Jesus in 4 BC and the Temple's dedication to 1004 BC, so with this assumption, the creation must have been in 4004 BC. There is no biblical statement that requires this. Rather, this assumption probably stemmed from a common belief, dating to at least the early Middle Ages and the early Church, that there would be 6000 years of human history, in parallel with the Creation Week in light of 2 Peter 3:8 (which is an allusion to Psalm 90:4)." (Comments on Ussher's Date of Creation, Danny R. Faulkner, Answers Research Journal 9, p 165, 2016 AD) iii. ... Catholic officials follow up this claim by stating that one can get the true meaning only from the Catholic Church. A Catechism for Adults on page 10 says, "How can you get the true meaning of the Bible? You can get it only from God's official interpreter, the Catholic Church." As we said before, the Catholics have no passages which mention an official interpreter and, thus, they try to support their claim through human logic and reasoning. Anytime men do such, it amounts to nothing more than human philosophy rather than Scriptural proof. The Bible says, "Let God be true, but every man a liar..." (Rom. 3:4). It also warns, "See to it that no one deceives you by philosophy and vain deceit, according to human traditions, according to the elements of the world and not according to Christ." (Col. 2:8). The inspired writers taught that we most certainly can understand the Scriptures. "For we write nothing to you that you do not read and understand." (2 Cor. 1:13). "...How that, according to ... ...

Why Are There So Many Different Churches? In Matthew Chapter 16:18, our Lord made a very strange statement when He said, "Upon this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, "There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." This tendency was true in the days of King Saul (I Samuel 15:1-24). Also in the time of Naaman (II Kings 5:1-14), and throughout the ages. History shows that is exactly what took place shortly after the days of the Apostles. ... The debates, it was said a century later, resembled a battle in the dark, no one knowing whether he was striking at friend or foe." But quite early on, the Council decided that Arius's theology was unacceptable. Then, Eusebius of Caesarea, probably with the idea of clearing himself of the charges of heresy which he had faced earlier in the year at Antioch, brought to Constantine's notice the baptismal creed of his own Church. This was accepted as an orthodox statement, but recent research suggests that it was not in fact used as the basis of the eventual creed of Nicaea. The real problem which faced the drafting committee-for such indeed they were-was to exclude Arius's ideas. Unfortunately, there were many statements defining the nature of the Son with which Arius could agree. He could accept that Christ "was before all ages" (i.e., a purely temporal concept) and even that he was God from God or the power and image of the Father (i.e., divinity derived from God) but not that he was ... ...
