401: Diocletian's destruction and Constantine's production of scripture
... government financed the multiplication of copies of scriptures instead of destroying them. Constantine directed Eusebius to have prepared for the churches in Constantinople fifty copies "of the sacred scriptures which you know to be especially necessary for the restoration and use in the instruction of the church." Eusebius says his prompt fulfillment of the request was acknowledged by letter from Constantine (Vit. Const. 4.37). Constantine knew there was such an entity as the Christian scriptures, required for public reading in the new churches being built in Constantinople, and certain books were copied and others left out. Constantine's commission did not require that Christians decide what the contents of scripture were; it was intended to replace those copies of the scriptures destroyed in the persecution. The Stratum 5 fortress, the largest and best-preserved of the three, has been ascribed to the ninth-eighth centuries BCE. The latest fortress (Stratum 4), apparently concurrent with the Edomite Shrine and accompanying cult remains, and possibly constructed by Josiah (second half of the seventh century BCE), was destroyed after a relatively short existence around the time of the destruction of the First Temple (586 BCE)." Uncovered beneath the piers of the fortress gate and to its west and south, the walls of the structure were built of silex. Click to View Apart from the obvious shortcomings of Radiocarbon dating, we feel the work of Thomas Levy's team is excellent. For an examination of radiocarbon dating see click here. A. Khirbat en-Nahas is in Moabite, Amorite territory not Edom! Please become familiar with maps of Moabite and Amorite and Edom territories. Edom was a nation at the time of Moses (1446 BC). After Israel vacated Kadesh Barnea at Petra in 1406 BC, Edom moved into Kadesh and called it "Sela" (Rock) after the Rock that Moses struck. It is entirely predicable that the Edomites were mining at Khirbat en-Nahas just before the time of David. This would be the best explanation for the occupation layer that preexisted the fortress Solomon built at the site. David and Solomon captured and controlled the transjordan territory of Edom about 1000 BC. All this fits nicely with what Thomas Levy excavated at KEN. Edom lived Transjordan from 1446 BC down to the Babylonian captivity, when they moved into the vacant ... ...

... Hebrew was the professional academic language of the Temple that the officiating Sadducees, scribes and Pharisees used, the very group who tried and crucified Jesus. ii. The inscription therefore, was a direct communication from Pilate to the general population that Jesus was an innocent man. This would remind the crowds that it was initially the Hebrew speaking "temple professionals" who in fact incited the general population to crucify Jesus at the very reluctant hands of the Romans. iii. Pilate clearly designed the inscription to snub and annoy the temple academics by the wording that emphasized the difference of the two verdicts where the three Jewish trials judged Jesus guilty but the three Roman trials judged Jesus innocent and proclaiming Jesus was their king. This is one thing Pilate got right and the Jews God wrong. iv. A project of such large scope was surely beyond the capabilities of a small community. An extensive network of water pipes was implemented in the northeastern and southeastern sectors of the city to collect, channel, and distribute the water from springs located several miles away. Top: these water ducts are depicted in a sketch by Rene Saupin. Extant elements of the conduits indicate that they were built on a smooth, carefully calculated slope that reveals a remarkable command of hydraulic technology. Above: a piece of terra-cotta pipe; conduits were either pipes or gutters carved into the rock and rendered watertight by a hydraulic plaster made of lime, sometimes mixed with clay. Another impressive public project was the protection of the narrow passage of the Siq from the violent flooding to which it was exposed. This was accomplished by diverting the overflow of the Wadi Musa through a tunnel into a tributary. The Nabataeans clearly mastered water conservation and management at ... ...

In the Jewish conception of Hades . . . the good and the wicked could see each other but were separated by a great impassable chasm. 420: Does God Approve Instrumental Music in church?
... We, as Christians, must seek, therefore, to please God even in things, such as the use of instruments in worship, which the traditions of our society name as being unimportant. This is part 2 of a series of four studies which examine arguments, or reasonings, for the use of instruments of music in worship. We seek to find scriptural reason for accepting or rejecting each argument. This 'lesson examines the argument which claims that there can be no objection to the use of instruments of music in worship because they were used to summons worshippers to the Jewish services and the apostles went there to worship. Acts 2:46-47 shows that the apostles and their converts met daily in the temple. The times spoken of in this scripture were good times for the early church. The converts had the good will of all the people and the animosity of the Jewish Sanhedrin, which had engineered Jesus' death only a few weeks before, had been temporarily forgotten. There is one other thing that concerns our salvation that I would like for us to look at in the Bible. In response to Peter's confession to Jesus in Matthew 16:16 that, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God". Jesus then says in Matthew 16:18, "On this rock I will build My church." To whom was this church to belong? "My" is possessive, which shows the church belongs to Jesus. How many churches did Jesus say He was going to build? He said He was going to build "My church", which is ... We also see that in all things Christ is to have the preeminence. For Christ to have the preeminence in all things, we must follow Christ in all things and not follow man. If we follow men in some things then Christ does not have the preeminence in all things. Since Christ only built His one church, we need to ask where did all these other churches come from? The only answer is they were built by men, so men could "attend the church of their choice", and not God's choice. We read in Ephesians ... ...

424: Sabbath Vs. 1st Day Debate: Samuele Bacchiocchi
... Conclusion: Thus, the first day of the week was the regular day of worship. The fundamental problem with your syllogism, John, is that it is based on faulty premises. In your major premise, you assume that offerings were a part of Sabbath worship in the OT and of Sunday worship in the NT. But nowhere does the Bible enjoins to take up collection during the Sabbath or Sunday religious service. On the contrary, Jewish tradition clearly forbade taking up collection on the Sabbath. No offerings were to handled during the Sabbath worship at the synagogue. The offerings were brought to the Temple or collected from home to home during the week, and not on the Sabbath. For references see footnote 7 on page 91 of FROM SABBATH TOSUNDAY. The problem with your minor premise is that you wrongly assume that Paul ordered the Corinthians to take up their offerings on the first day of the week during their church service. Please note that there is nothing in the text that suggests that the Corinthians ... ...

Well if that argument is valid, then Sabbatarians better start keeping all these days mentioned after the cross in the New Covenant. For example, will Sabbatarians deny that the followers of Christ were actually keeping the Jewish day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1? The Day of Pentecost Acts 2:1 The days of unleavened bread: Acts 12:3; 20:6 Days of Purification: Acts 21:26 Animal Sacrifices: Acts 21:26 Circumcision: Acts 16:3 Temple worship: Acts 24:12 C. This is the only time after the cross the disciples actually keep the Sabbath. How come Adventists have only one feeble proof-text? Why is there no other place that explicit place in the New Covenant where Christians are said to be "keeping the Sabbath according to the commandment" This ... ...

427: Archaeologists are digging up bible stories!!!
... In Genesis 11:31, for instance, Abraham (Abram) is said to have lived in the city of Ur. The existence of this great city was often scorned until, recent archeological diggings uncovered its ancient ruins. Temples, houses, and even the king's and queen's tombs have been discovered. The ancient Egyptian city of Pithom has been uncovered and storehouses fitting the description of those built by the Israelites have been found, the lower portion containing brick with straw and the upper portion containing brick without straw. (See Exodus 1:11; 5:7). The mummy of Thutmose III, the pharoah of the exodus, was discovered in the Deir el-Bahri Cache above the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut in 1881. 428: Dancing and the Bible: Is it OK?
Similar use of the term "dancing" is made by the Psalmist to express joy and praise unto Jehovah God. Since the term "dancing" is capable of expressing a broad range of man's thoughts, it may also portray that which is lewd and sinful. Moses, having received the law from God, returned from the mount to find the people dancing naked around the golden calf which they had formed (Exodus 32:19-26). The dancing of the daughter of Herodias had such appeal to the base human passion that Herod promised to give her anything she might desire, a rash promise which led to the murder of John the baptizer (Matthew 14:3-10). Our "modern dancing", a phrase used to include both ballroom dancing in which there is continuous body contact between partners and such dancing as that which commonly accompanies modern rock music, differs greatly from the dancing mentioned in the Bible, for such present-day dancing has no trace of religious significance, nor is it solo in nature, but involves men and women ... ...

429: Josh McDowell's Powerful Evidience for Resurrection
... My approach to Classics is historical. And I tell you that the evidence for the life, the death, and the resurrection of Christ is better authenticated than most of the facts of ancient history . . . E. M. Blaiklock Professor of Classics Auckland University BACKGROUND The New Testament witnesses were fully aware of the background against which the resurrection took place. The body of Jesus, in accordance with Jewish burial custom, was wrapped in a linen cloth. About 100 pounds of aromatic spices, mixed together to form a gummy substance, were applied to the wrappings of cloth about the body. After the body was placed in a solid rock tomb, an extremely large stone was rolled against the entrance of the tomb. Large stones weighing approximately two tons were normally rolled (by means of levers) against a tomb entrance. A Roman guard of strictly disciplined fighting men was stationed to guard the tomb. This guard affixed on the tomb the Roman seal, which was meant to "prevent any attempt ... ...

Unusual benches retrofitted inside the triple gate of the original fortress as a second use as a waiting room of some kind before gaining entrance. The secondary purpose of this structure is a mystery and some have concluded it was a spiritual rest stop type of place, but not an actual temple of worship per se. The strategic location of Kuntillet Ajrud is located 15 km west of the ancient Darb el-Ghazza. Solomon chose to set it west of the trade route to further ensure it would be protected. ... It is important to keep this in mind because future excavations and further examinations of the pottery by biblical conservative archeologists may one day confirm Cohen's original dating of the site to the time of Solomon. b. The apocryphal books themselves make reference to what we call the Silent 400 years, where there was no prophets of God to write inspired materials. 441: Official creed of the Unity/Unitarian Church
... If one's mental processes are out of harmony with the law of man's [sic] being, they result in trouble and sorrow; mental as well as bodily anguish overtakes one, and this is hell". Satan: Many Christians look upon Satan as a quasi-deity; an all evil presence who is the opposite of the goodness of God. Satan and God are often portrayed as fighting over individuals' souls. This dual divinity has obvious links to Zoroastrianism which was incorporated into ancient Jewish legends which, in turn, were later codified as parts of the book of Genesis. Other aspects of Satan were derived from ancient Greek and Babylonian beliefs. Unity interprets Satan's temptation of Jesus symbolically. Satan did not tempt Jesus to turn stones into bread; it was the "voice of human hunger"; the temptation to throw himself off the highest part of the temple was "the voice of human desire for recognition"; the temptation to becomea ruler was "the voice of worldliness". Thus Satan is not a physical entity; but is ... ...

443: Is Jesus Christ, God's only true Son?
Christ claimed to have a unique relationship with God. He did not permit the observation that he was only a son of God, one child among many. He was the son of God, the only begotten son, unique, extraordinary, one of a kind! Even as a lad of twelve in the temple, he was about his heavenly Father's business (Luke 2:49). He said that he and his Father were one (John 10:30). Probably the boldest assertion Christ ever made about his divinity was to the Jews in John 8:56-59. When Jesus remarked that Abraham rejoiced to see his day, the Jews retorted: "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?". Jesus replied: "Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." The designation, "I am", was a special title in the Jewish tradition reserved for God, alone; it was, indeed, the divine first name, the name God told Moses in Exodus 3:14 to tell the Israelites just before the Exodus from Egypt. The Pharisees, however, interpreted the 'sabbath' of Lv. 23:15 as the Festival of Unleavened Bread (cf. At a height of about 1.2 m a middle layer of (mostly tamarisk) branches was placed lengthwise and crosswise, thereby strengthening the wall by forming an intermediate layer separating the lower course of stone from the upper one.
