451: The Historical Development of "Arian style" (Jehovah's Witness ...
Subordination Within The Godhead The Historical Development of "Arian style" (Jehovah's Witness) Unitarian Subordination: "The Apologists were, in a sense, the Church's first theologians: the first to attempt a sketch of trinitarian doctrine and an intellectually satisfying explanation of Christ's relation to God the Father. They identified Christ with God, with the Logos, with the Son of God, but they seemed to count His Sonship not from eternity but from the moment of his pre-creational generation. In thus using a two-stage theory of a pre-existent Logos to explain the Son's divine status and His relation to the Father. They Probably did not realize that this theory had a built-in 'inferiorizing principle' that would win for them the accusation of 'subordinationism.' Origen, the greatest theologian of the East, rejected this two-stage theory and maintained the eternal generation of the Son. But to reconcile the eternity of the Son with a strict monotheism, he resorted to a Platonic ... ...

452: Subordination within the Godhead: Roles and Ranks
Subordination within the Godhead Submission doesn't make a wife less human than her husband. Submission doesn't make Jesus less God than the Father. Biblical subordination Jesus Christ is the creator, not a creature and will always be equal to the Father in this sense. Jn 1:1 says, "and the word was [uncreated] God". However, sometime around the incarnation, Jesus made a choice to submit to the Father as His head. We call this choice, the subordination (or down-ranking) of Christ to the Father. Jesus did not give up being God, He merely began to obey the Father as though He were a creature. This is called "Biblical subordination". Bible evidence seems to support the view that the Holy Spirit submits to both the Father and the Son, but it is not a strong case. 463: Biblical Subordination expressed by scholars
Subordination Within The Godhead Biblical Subordination expressed by scholars: Pauline Writings, Summary: ... Without doubt Paul attributes full divinity to Jesus ... Though at times he presents the Son as in some sense subordinate to the Father, he never makes the Son a creature. (The Triune God, Edmund Fortman, p23) Paul calls Him the image of God, Lord, Son of God, Christ. and Savior; he says that He subsists in the form of God and is equal to God; he assigns to Him the divine functions of creation, salvation, and judgment; and he probably also calls Him God explicitly. Paul makes Christ's eternal pre-existence more explicit than the Synoptists did. If at times he sees the Son as in some sense subordinate to the Father, yet he never makes Him a creature but always puts Him on the side of the creator. (The Triune God, Edmund Fortman, p31) "Although the Spirit is distinguished from Christ and subordinated to him, it can be said in 1 Jn 2:1 that Christ is the Paraclete with the Father. ... ...

464: Anti-Trinity Proof Texts Refuted: Galatians 4:14
The two expressions "angel of God" and "Christ Jesus Himself" prove that Jesus is an angel or is simply called an angel. What Galatians 4:14 is actually saying: A simple paraphrase: "The Galatians did not loathe or despise Paul because of his bodily condition and unimpressive physical appearance and speech but received Paul instead with honour as though he were an angel or even Jesus Christ Himself." Or "You did not despise me when we first met, but gave me full honor and respect as thought I were a rich man, a king, apostle Peter, an angel, Jesus Christ, the Father." Background: Paul, at the time he penned the Galatian letter, could never be one of the typical "Hollywood preened" TV evangelists of today. He was sickly, ugly and spoke poorly (likely some kind of speech impediment as a result of being stoned in Acts 14:19). Before his conversion, Paul was being trained by Gamaliel (Acts 5:33; 22:3) so was at that time the cream of the crop, being intelligent. This proves that Paul's ... ...

... Why would the Jews, who had unity of purpose with the Father, try to kill Jesus for affirming the same thing? If Jesus was just affirming unity of purpose with the Father by saying "I and the father are one," then why did the Jews understand His words to be an affirmation that He was God (John 10:33)? And if they were mistaken in thinking this, Why, did Jesus not correct them? Did they not understand Him correctly? Look at John 10:34-38! If the watchtower interpretation of John 10:30 is correct, and the oneness that Christ shares with the Father is identical to the oneness that believers have with Christ, are you willing to insert your personal name in John 10:30? 481: Fortman, Edmund: The Triune God
... The Apostolic Fathers were witnesses to the Biblical data and the traditional faith rather than theologians, but they furnished useful insights into the lines along which the Church's unconscious theology was developing. Most of them indicated quite clearly a belief in the divinity of Christ, less clearly a belief in the distinct personality and divinity of the Holy Spirit. They gave solid evidence of a belief in three pre-existent 'beings,' but they furnished no trinitarian doctrine, no awareness of a trinitarian problem. (The Triune God, Edmund Fortman, introduction, p.xv) Apostolic Fathers: Summary: ... All, except perhaps Hermas, subscribe to the divinity of Christ. I Clement coordinates Christ with the Father and the Holy Spirit in an oath. Ignatius calls Christ God 14 times. 484: Development from the trinity as taught in the Bible and the trinity ...
... We do not defend the developed Nicene concept of the trinity. The necessity to formulate the doctrine was thrust upon the Church by forces from without, and it was, in particular, its faith in the deity of Christ, and the necessity to defend it, that first compelled the Church to face the duty of formulating a full doctrine of the Trinity for its rule of faith." (New Bible Dictionary, J. D. Douglas & F. F. Bruce, Trinity, p 1298) In the immediate post New Testament period of the Apostolic Fathers no attempt was made to work out the God-Christ (Father-Son) relationship in ontological terms. By the end of the fourth century, and owing mainly to the challenge posed by various heresies, theologians went beyond the immediate testimony of the Bible and also beyond liturgical and creedal expressions of trinitarian faith to the ontological trinity of coequal persons "within" God. In Matthew Chapter 28,verse 19, he said, "Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost". The question before us is what was and is the action of that baptism commanded by Christ and his apostles. The Bible clearly describes the action of Christian baptism as a burial in water, for baptism is a likeness to the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. We are not saved by our own goodness, but by the goodness, the love, and the favor of God. We are not saved by our own merit, but by the blood of Jesus Christ. "And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, 'This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man'. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh". This passage tells us that God instituted and approved of the marriage of one man to one woman. God has not seen fit to change this arrangement. The famous Isa 7:14 prophecy of the virgin had 100% fulfillment in Isaiah 8:3-4 in 732 BC, just a few years before the Assyrian captivity of 723 BC. a. Yet the Temple scholars in Jerusalem understood it to be messianic and chose to translate the Greek Septuagint "virgin" as opposed to maiden. b.
