3: The office of Elders, pastors and bishops
The church we read about in the Bible was organized in a very simple way. A general pattern was to have 2 or more qualified men overseeing each local congregation or church. These men could be referred to as the "eldership". Each man must meet several high qualifications which the Bible lists in two passages. Elders are the spiritual leaders of a congregation. They also watch out for the souls of the members like a shepherd. Christ is the head of every local church. There is no human head of the church. The Bible is the only written creed for each local church, rather than a man-made written creed. Each local church is autonomous and self-governing. No outside interference from others. No organizational tie between local churches. No organization larger than local churches. The Bible uses Elder, Presbyter, Overseer, Bishop, Shepherd, Pastor interchangeably and they all refer to a single office in the church. Local churches appoint their own plurality of elders using 1 Timothy 3, and ... ...

Patriarch of Constantinople. Orthodox Creed Orthodox Catechism Click Your Choice Go To Start Orthodox Creed Orthodox Catechism GOD THE FATHER: GOD THE FATHER is the fountainhead of the Holy Trinity. The Scriptures reveal the one God is Three Persons -- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit -- eternally sharing the one divine nature. From the Father the Son is begotten before all ages and all time (Psalm 2:7; II Corinthians 11:31). It is from the Father that the Holy Spirit eternally proceeds (John 15:26). God the Father created all things through the Son, in the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1 and 2; John 1:3; Job 33:4), and we are called to worship Him (John 4:23). The Father loves us and sent His Son to give us everlasting life (John 3:16). JESUS CHRIST JESUS CHRIST is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, eternally born of the Father. Click to View Find a local congregation of the New Testament church in your own home town. Click to View Bartholomew Orthodox, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch Today: 4 Competing views of organization: There are four different ways that believers in Christ view the development of papal power in Rome: The true position: True Christians follow the organization of exactly what God already revealed in the Bible. If God wanted a Patriarchal system, it would be revealed in the Bible and Set up on the Day of Pentecost. If God wanted Rome to be the all time world headquarters of the church, the first century Christians knew nothing about it and God failed to mention such in the Bible. True Christians do Bible things in Bible ways, call Bible things by Bible names and view the Bible as a complete inspired blueprint revealed once for all time. True Christians view the Bible as the only roadmap and reject all creeds and councils as of human origin. The foundational ... ...

10: Synagogue Organization and Government: Elders, officials, attendants ...
Synagogue worship was the prototype for Christian Church. GOVERNMENT IN SYNAGOGUES A. Leadership and government Transition from Temple to Synagogue to church: 1. Qualifications change from pedigree to morality and living spiritual faith. a. The Hebrew Jerusalem temple had animal sacrifices and special "ordained" high priests in a system of clericalism based upon pedigree. Like the dynasty of Judean Kings and scribes, the High priest had to trace his parentage back to Levi though specific genealogical records. There are many examples in the Bible of the general population rejecting the successor in prophetic and kingly dynasties. Both Eli and Samuel's children were worthless and the people rejected Samuel's sons on moral basis. 1 Samuel 2:22; 1 Samuel 8:1-5 b. Synagogues began in 280 BC as a simple group of spiritually minded common Jewish men (Non-Levite) in Egypt devoted to reading the Torah and prayer. Over time a body of elders was appointed from these men. By about 100 BC the ... ...

This is the way it has been to this very day. 622 AD: The Muslims wipe out Jerusalem, Antioch, and Alexandria leaving Rome and Constantinople as the two dominant centers of power in the church. "The patriarchates of Jerusalem, Antioch, and Alexandria were distracted and weakened in the course of the fifth and sixth centuries by the tedious monophysite controversies, and subsequently, after the year 622, were reduced to but a shadow by the Mohammedan [Muslims, Islam] conquests." (Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church) In this way, the devil created the political environment for the great split of 1054 AD by removing all other authorities, except these two. ... ...

Gregory I, denies the title even for himself. Biship of Rome, Gregory I protests John IV the Faster's use of the title "universal bishop" saying such a claim is a sign "the antichrist is near" and calls it a "proud and profane title" and equates John IV's to the devil himself. 4 595 AD: John IV the Faster dies on September 2, shortly after claiming to be pope of the world. 5 602 AD Roman Emperor Maurice is murdered in a coup by Phocas, who then becomes emperor. 6 604 AD Gregory, the bishop of Rome dies and is replaced by Sabinian, who reigns for two years. 7 606 AD Sabinian, the bishop of Rome dies and is replaced by Boniface III. Phocas writes to the new bishop of Rome, Boniface III and through imperial decree of the Roman government, proclaims Boniface III, as the "Head of all the Churches" and "Universal Bishop". These men were nothing more than the diocesan bishops from the large and important cities that began to rule over the bishops of the smaller cities. Now you have bishops over bishops.
