God Changes Not

The Bible says, "And God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am’ and He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I Am has sent me to you." (Ex. 3:14). God’s character is changeless. During the course of a lifetime, events may alter the character of a man or of a woman. There are things that can change us forever. For example, a trusting person may become cynical because of a deep hurt brought on by the betrayal of a close friend. But God does not change; nothing can make Him become less fair, or honest, or righteous, or good that perfection allows.

Neither does God change His eternal purpose. The Scriptures affirm, "and the glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man…" (1 Sam. 15:29). The Lord does not go half way into a job and then quit because He has discovered he has misjudged the task. All of His plans are based upon the perfect wisdom that omniscience allows Him to have.

And God’s Son is the same. The Bible says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, yes and forever." (Heb. 13:8). Jesus loves us as much today as He did when he allowed Himself to be led away to crucifixion. His gift shows His love is eternal; and because of the resurrection, His love did not die as he breathed His last, because He arose to live and love again.

God’s character, purpose and Son remain constant and worthy of our trust.
