Is Your Name Written There?

The Front Page

Have you ever been featured on the cover of Time magazine? Me neither. And we probably won’t be any time soon. But in the ceaseless eternity to come it will not matter in the least - what will matter is whether our names are written in Heaven!

Jesus told His disciples to “rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20). The Scriptures also talk about the “book of life” (Phil. 4:3) and affirm that our names need to be there more than they need to be anywhere else. We read that if anyone’s name is not written there that they will be excluded from heaven. The Bible describes this as “being thrown into the lake of fire.”  (Rev. 20:15).

Now, I do not know if there is a literal book or if this is just a description of the record God keeps within His infinite mind. I do know that there is such a record being kept and our names need to be there. And, our names do not get put there because we are president or king or preacher or scholar. My name won’t be there simply because I am religious or on a church membership list somewhere. I cannot write it there, only God can. A name gets written there every time a man or woman obeys the gospel of Christ by faith (Matt. 7:21; Rom. 1:16) and God promises not to erase the name as long as one continues to live by faith (Rev. 3:5).   Of course, the implication of that is that one can and will be erased from the Book of Life is one ceases to live by faith. It is important that we not allow that to happen.
