Homosexuality is condemned in Islam, and guilt requires the establishment of four credible witnesses, similar to the case for adultery. In fact, the punishments meted our seem to be the same.
In the case of women, they are to be confined for life or until God finds a way for them, usually meaning death (an-Nisa' 4:15-16). In the case of men, they are to be punished, although it is not mentioned in the Qur'an how. Sunan Abu Dawud says that an unmarried man convicted of sodomy is to be stoned to death (Sunan Abu Daud 38.4448). Malik's Muwatta says that he should be stoned whether or not he is muhsan (Malik's Muwatta 41.1.11).
