CAN A CHRISTIAN BE LOST?

When did the last times begin?

The Bible says:

Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterances.

Please explain to me what the day of Pentecost is and the speaking of tongues!

Facts about the day of Pentecost and tongues:

  1. The day of Pentecost here in Acts 2, happened in about 33AD.
  2. This was the day the Holy Spirit fell upon the twelve apostles.
  3. Thousands gathered to hear the first gospel sermon preached by Peter.
  4. The masses were amazed that the apostles were speaking in tongues (human languages that they had not learned)
  5. The masses were divided as to why the men were speaking in tongues.

The Bible says:

But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of sweet wine". Acts 2:13

Question:

Peter replied to the men who were mocking:

Here is more!

Acts 2:15 Peter said to the mockers, "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day." (3rd hour of the day Jewish time, is 9AM our time)

Then Peter continued to explain what was happening:

Acts 2:16 "but THIS is what was spoken of, through the prophet Joel".

Question:

Why did Peter say that the men were speaking in tongues?

It was to fulfill the ancient prophecy of Joel.

I don't understand. Who or what is Joel?

Fact:

  1. Joel is the name of an Old Testament prophet, like Isaiah.
  2. Joel is also the name of an Old Testament book written by Joel the prophet.
  3. Joel wrote his prophecies in about 830 BC.

Peter replied to the mockers:

Acts 2:15 "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day. but THIS (referring to the apostles speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost) is what was spoken of, (or prophesied) through the prophet Joel". (This prophecy is found in Joel 2:28)

What exactly did Joel prophecy???

Here is what Joel's prophecy said, as quoted by Peter in Acts 2:17

'And it shall be in the last days,' God says, 'That I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams."

Question:

In what time period did Joel prophecy that the Holy Spirit would be poured out, allowing the Apostles to speak in tongues?

Joel said his prophecy would be fullilled in the last days

Joel's prophecy did not apply to the day of Pentecost

Question:

If the Apostles were speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost and Peter said that this event fulfilled Joel's prophecy, when did the last days begin???

The last days started in 1947 AD when Isreal became a nation again.

The day of Pentecost (33AD) was during the last days.

The last days have not begun yet, but will surely begin by 2000AD

I am not sure, let me review this verse again please!
