CAN A CHRISTIAN BE LOST?
When did the last times begin?
Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of
Pentecost had come, they were all together
in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like
a violent, rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they
were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing
themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And
they were all filled with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving
them utterances.
.
.
- The day of Pentecost here in Acts 2, happened
in about 33AD.
- This was the day the Holy Spirit fell upon the
twelve apostles.
- Thousands gathered to hear the first gospel sermon
preached by Peter.
- The masses were amazed that the apostles were
speaking in tongues (human languages that they had not learned)
- The masses were divided as to why the men were
speaking in tongues.
The Bible says:
But others were mocking and saying, "They are full of
sweet wine". Acts 2:13
Question:
What did some men think about why the apostles where speaking
in tongues?
.
.
Peter replied to the men who were
mocking:
Acts 2:15 Peter said to the mockers, "For these men are
not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the
day." (3rd hour of the day Jewish time, is 9AM
our time)
Then Peter continued to explain
what was happening:
Acts 2:16 "but THIS
is what was spoken
of, through
the prophet Joel".
Question:
Why did Peter say that the men were speaking in tongues?
.
.
- Joel is the name of an Old Testament prophet,
like Isaiah.
- Joel is also the name of an Old Testament book
written by Joel the prophet.
- Joel wrote his prophecies in about 830 BC.
Peter replied to the mockers:
Acts 2:15 "For these men are not drunk, as you suppose,
for it is only the third hour of the day. but THIS
(referring to the apostles speaking in tongues on the day
of Pentecost) is what was spoken
of, (or
prophesied) through the prophet Joel".
(This prophecy is found in Joel 2:28)
.
.
'And it shall be in the last days,'
God says, 'That I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind;
And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
And your young men shall see visions,
And your old men shall dream dreams."
Question:
In what time period did Joel prophecy that the Holy Spirit
would be poured out, allowing the Apostles to speak in tongues?
.
.
If the Apostles were speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost
and Peter said that this event fulfilled Joel's prophecy, when
did the last days begin???
