Click to ViewSeventh-day Adventists are quick to point out that Ten commandments are quoted in the New Testament.

Actual Adventist false argument: The New Testament quotes several of the 10 commandments proving that all 10 are binding today including the Sabbath!

False argument answered:

  1. While it is true that the New Testament quotes several of the Ten Commandments, the 4th commandment, (the Sabbath) IS NEVER quoted! The Sabbath law is never even quoted in the New Testament, instead, it is said to be abolished: Col 2:14-16
  2. If we follow Adventist logic when they say, "if something from the Old Testament is merely quoted in the New Testament means we must keep them today", then we must keep the Jewish feasts of Passover (Acts 12:4), Pentecost (Acts 2:1). Why Jesus even commanded animal sacrifices! (Matthew 8:4) Yet keeping Jewish feast days are forbidden in Gal 4:10, even though the new trend in Sabbath keeping churches is to wade deeper in to the waters of judaizing.
  3. According to twisted Sabbatarian logic, if quoting "Thou Shalt not covet" in the New Testament binds the whole 10 commandment law; then quoting "Love your neighbor as yourself" binds the whole book of Moses. If quoting some of the "ten commandments" binds the Sabbath day, then quoting some of the laws in the "book of the law of Moses" binds the entire "ceremonial law" (as Sabbatarians incorrectly call it). What proves too much proves nothing at all!
  4. The two greatest moral commandments are not found in the ten commandments: Jesus said the greatest commandment was not part of the 10! Mt 22:36-40 (Too bad for Sabbatarians: Great place for Jesus to quote the Sabbath law!)
  5. Commandments only mentioned collectively twice in new testament: both times abolished! (Hebrews 9:1-4 and 2 Corinthians 2). The ten commandments (tablets) are part of the first covenant that was replaced by the new covenant of Heb 8:13

2 Corinthians 3:2-11

Old Covenant

New Covenant

Written with ink

Written by the Spirit of the living God,

Written on tablets of stone

Written on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

Of the letter that kills

of the Spirit that gives life

Ministry of death, written and engraved on stones

Ministry of the Spirit

Was glorious, had glory

More glorious, exceeds much more in glory

Ministry of condemnation

Ministry of righteousness

Is passing away

Remains
