Actual Sabbatarian false argument:

"Ananias, a Christian, kept the 10 commandments"

Sabbatarian proof text: Acts 22:12 "And a certain Ananias, a man who was devout by the standard of the Law, and well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there"

Answer:

A. One chapter earlier we are told that the law included: Circumcision!

Acts 21:20-24 And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, "You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law; and they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs. "What, then, is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come. "Therefore do this that we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; take them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses in order that they may shave their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law."

B. Therefore the "standard of the law" Acts 22:12= circumcision Acts 21:20f

  1. Sabbatarians must either admit this is another false argument or begin to practice circumcision! What proves too much proves nothing at all!
  2. From a Jewish perspective, Ananias a former Jew being circumcised, was devout by the standard of the law.
  3. If a Muslim cleric said of a Sabbatarian living in Iraq, "Those Sabbatarian Christians sure are devout according to our Muslim law" We would understand what was being said.
