Board These “Ships”

One of my sermons about materialism and the love of money is delivered through the image of FOUR SHIPS THAT YOU CAN SAIL AWAY FROM THE LOVE OF MONEY (1 Tim. 6:10).

GOD’S OWNERSHIP – God owns everything. My perspective should begon with this premise. God owns everything; it all belongs to Him. He is the Creator and Owner (see Deut. 10:14; Psa. 50:10; 1 Chron. 29:12-16). All my thoughts, plans, budget and attitude about money must take into account who the real Owner is.

OUR STEWARDSHIP – God allows me to have what I have, and I’m responsible to Him for not only how I earn money but how I hold it and use it (see Matt. 25:14-30). “It is required of stewards that one be found faithful,” (1 Cor. 4:2).

OUR PARTNERSHIP – Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” (Acts 20:35). To this add what Paul wrote, “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need,” (Eph. 4:28).

OUR CITIZENSHIP This world is not my home. The more I learn to cherish the things of heaven, the more I keep my allegiance to God steadfast, the more I study, learn, pray and live with healthy kingdom ambitions, the less I am investing in this earth (see Matt. 6:19-24).
