Bereavement counseling is ineffective and unproven:

1. Polak and his colleagues, in a controlled study of the effects of a sudden death of a family member, came to a similar conclusion that crisis intervention services were ineffective in reducing psychological consequences and that social factors are the important variables. (Manufacturing Victims, Dr. Tana Dineen, 2001, p 183)
